How Structural Drying Works

Airflow, dehumidification and measurement working together — and why the equipment cannot simply be left anywhere.

Evaporation and removal

Drying has two halves. Air movers accelerate evaporation from wet surfaces into the air; dehumidifiers remove that moisture from the air so evaporation can continue. One without the other simply relocates humidity.

Airflow placement

Air movers are angled to create a moving layer across wet surfaces rather than pointed directly at them. Placement follows the wet area, not convenience.

Dehumidification types

Refrigerant units condense moisture from warm, humid air and suit most residential conditions. Desiccant units use adsorbent material and perform better in cooler spaces or when very low humidity is required.

Cavity and specialty drying

Wall cavities, under-floor spaces and hardwood assemblies do not dry from room air alone. Focused systems direct air into those spaces so trapped moisture can leave.

Measurement closes the loop

Readings taken at consistent points show whether the plan is working. When a reading stops improving, the assembly is investigated rather than the equipment simply left running longer.
